VERNAL—Proposition 4 has been a topic of conversation throughout the community for months. Tonight, November 5th, preliminary election results are showing that the Voted Local Levy has failed.
3564 citizens voted against the tax increase and 2998 voted for it. Voter turn out in Uintah County was close to 48%.
Vocal opponent of the Voted Local Levy, James Drollinger, said of the preliminary results, “It’s wonderful day for the tax payers and hopefully it sends a big message to the board.”
Drollinger is hopeful that the board will “Move on and do the right thing for the teachers... because they deserve it and there’s plenty of money. The teachers need to get up to par with other educators in the state, which in turn allows the students to get a better education in Uintah County.”
Uintah School District said, “We are grateful to live in a country where our voices have value through our vote. The voters of our community have voiced their opinion with their ballots. The school board will now need to make its decisions accordingly.”
Election results will not be finalized until November 13 when the Board of Canvassers for Uintah School Board will convene at Vernal Middle School at 5:30 PM.
