Vernal Police released additional information in the death of a 3 year old girl in March during a press conference Sunday morning.
Vernal City Assistant Police Chief Keith Campbell confirmed the victim was 3 year Arianna Stout. Campbell said the girl’s stepmother, 24 year old McKenley Yadon, was arrested on Thursday and charged with Aggravated murder, a first degree felony, and second degree felony child abuse. Campbell said Yadon in currently being held without bail in the Uintah County Jail.
Campbell said on March 14, officers responded to a 911 call for an unresponsive child at 1536 West 300 South in Vernal. The child, identified as Arianna Stout, was taken to Ashley Regional Medical Center where efforts to revive her were unsuccessful and she was pronounced dead.
Campbell said her death was ruled a homicide by asphyxiation due to smothering.
Campbell said detectives conducted extensive interviews with Yadon prior to her arrest but, citing efforts to preserve a jury pool, declined to provide further details about the case.
Campbell said the Department of Child and Family Services and the Uintah Basin Child Abuse task force have been actively involved to ensure the safety of other children in the home during the course of the investigation.
As of Sunday afternoon, Yadon’s initial appearance date was not available.
